11th September 2010

Today it is farewell to Guttet-feschel and we head to a small place called Hondrich which is near Spiez/Interlaken. We head to Goppenstein and have to put the car on a train which goes through a tunnel, the only way through the alps to get to the other side. I had investigated this train on the net before we left home but really had no idea how it all worked. When we neared Goppenstein, a sign directed us to the train station. We bought our ticket (CHF25)and just followed another car onto the train. Easy. But what an experience. We drove onto the train wagon, turned the car off in gear, engaged the hand break and just sat in the car for the 15 minute ride. They don't worry about securing the car to the wagon or anything. What I didn't realise is that in the tunnel, it is pitch black. You can't even see the car in front of you. It is a rather eerie experience. The car is swaying in the darkness and the noise of the train engine and the train wheels on the track is enormous. But an experience not to be missed.

After all the excitement of the train ride we finally arrived at Hondrich and our next apartment. And what a lovely apartment. The best yet. The house is a renovated farm house and we have the top attic apartment. There is only one apartment, but our host has 3 bed and breakfast rooms on the floor below us. And again, as in the other apartments, the views are just fabulous. We have 2 balconies and views from all the rooms.
