Today we headed to another valley in the Valais, Val d'Anniviers and a place called Zinal at the head of the valley. The narrow and twisty road seemed to go on forever but we eventually got there. After yesterdays long hike, I thought that an easy one was in order for the day. We parked on the southern outskirts of Zinal and headed to Cabane Du Petit Mountet in the mountains surrounding Zinal. We had 2 options for the hike, an easy and a more difficult. The easy usually indicates a gravel road all the way and that is too boring so we chose the difficult option. And it was an enjoyable hike with an elevation difference of only 467m. The path at times was quite steep, especially the final lead up to the cabin, but a great hike none the less.
Looking back towards Zinal
You should just be able to make out the hut at the top of the path below the snow-capped mountain.

On the walk down
Even though this wasn't classified a difficult hike, we still walked 11km and took 3 hours. On the return walk, we passed a young guy sitting on a boulder eating his lunch while reading a book. The river thundered below and I thought what an ideal situation. We don't seem to take the time to just sit and enjoy the surroundings because we are trying to cram so much in. Oh well!! There is always next year!! This is just such a beautiful place.
