1st September 2010

The weather this morning was beautiful and we decided to make use of one of the free mountain lifts. The Tourist Office recommended we try the Punt Muragl lift. The starting point for today's hike was the top station of the lift, Muottas Muragl at 2456m. The trail was an easy one without any great ups or downs and is called the Panoramaweg. It was a beautiful hike with tremendous views down into the valley and to some of the higher mountains across the valley. Our goal was another mountain lift at Alp Languard to get back down to the valley. We added a side trip to a hut, Paradis-Hutte at 2540m. Total hiking time was about 4 hrs.

The lowest point in the Engadin Valley is roughly 1700m above sea level and is surrounded by mountains that are between 3000 & 4000m high. Quite an impressive sight when you get up high.

Looking towards St Moritz

You can see the trail on the mountain to the right.

Ice on some grass beside the trail.

Free bus back home and the problem of what to have for tea. Everything is so expensive here and we have trouble reading the menus. Tried a local Pizza/pasta restaurant. Ray was not all that impressed but I think it was more that he ordered the wrong pizza because of the language problem. But I guess that if we only have to pay for dinner each day, it makes it quite cheap. Lunch we make from left-overs at breakfast that is provided by the hotel. We haven't used the car once since we arrived here.

We don't have covered parking for the car and there has been ice covering it each morning. Nights and mornings have been very cold. But I think it is warming up because the snow cover is starting to disappear, sadly. It is so much nicer when the mountains are covered with snow. But I guess you can't have the snow and nice warm weather. The weather is looking good for tomorrow as well, so it'll be another hike I guess. Surprise, Surprise!!
